Adapting to new approaches in teaching and learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) has set a roadmap for the review and updating its MATATAG Curriculum Guide for Grade 8. The DepEd MATATAG Curriculum equips Grade 8 with a comprehensive mix of subjects to prepare them for the academic challenges of Senior High School:
- Filipino and English: Hone communication skills in both languages. Students delve into advanced grammar, vocabulary building, and critical thinking through literary analysis, persuasive writing, and effective communication techniques.
- Mathematics: Master more complex mathematical concepts. This includes solving equations with variables, exploring geometry and trigonometry, and applying mathematical models to real-world problems.
- Science (Integrated): Unify your understanding of the natural world. This integrated approach combines Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science, allowing students to see the connections between different scientific disciplines. They conduct experiments, analyze data, and develop critical thinking skills through scientific inquiry.
- Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies): Explore the world through a historical and social lens. Students delve into global history, government systems, and current events. They develop critical thinking and research skills to analyze social issues and understand the Philippines’ role in the global community.
“Ang importante marunong siyang magbasa at yung mga importanteng kaalaman at kasanayan. Kasi kahit hindi mo na yan turuan pag naging interesado yan, magbabasa yan at magdi-discover ng mundo on their own,” added Usec. San Antonio. In addition, DepEd will also review the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) implemented this school year and assess if these are sufficient for learners to acquire knowledge and skills.
