Teachers of Alapan 1 ES conducted Child Mapping this year

In the preparation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP), Alapan 1 Elementary School started gathering data needed for planning, crafting, and assessing the SIP. One of these data-gathering activities is Child Mapping of those out-of-school. Child mapping should be done at least every 3 years (preferably at the start of the SIP cycle), assuming that there are no major changes in the population of your community. After events causing major population changes, child mapping should be conducted to account for the children in your community.

As per the instruction of our Guidance Teacher Marilyn Alegro, teachers and volunteer distributed those child mapping tools in their respective assigned places. They should fill this up as they move from house to house in the barangays near the school vicinity. Those barangays are usually where our learners lived, these include Alapan 1B, Alapan 1C, and other nearby subdivisions or residential districts. This will help us get important basic information on the status of 4-17-year-old children in nearby communities.

You only need to cover your barangay unless a majority of your students come from nearby communities, in which case, you need to conduct child mapping in those barangays as well. If there are no schools in a barangay, the District or Division office will initiate the child mapping in that area (following DO. No. 1, s. 2015).

For this activity, our school needs the cooperation of different stakeholders including the barangay officials, parents, volunteers, GPTA Officers, and teachers. We must gather accurate data that will truly represent the needs of the communities and learners in the aspect of educational services.

What is School Improvement Plan (SIP)?

The School Improvement Plan (SIP) is a roadmap that lays down specific interventions that a school, with the help of the community and other stakeholders, will undertake within a period of three consecutive school years. The implementation of development activities integral to it is in the school such as projects under the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP), the creation and mobilization of Learning Action Cells (LACs), and the preparation of the School Report Card (SRC). SIP seeks to provide those involved in school planning an evidence-based, systematic approach with the point of view of the learner as the starting point. Ultimately, it is envisioned to help schools reach the goal of providing access to quality education.
