12th ASEAN SCHOOLS GAMES – Alapan 1 Elementary School

  1. The Department of Education (DepEd) announced through DepEd Memorandum No. 180, s. 2019 the Philippines ‘ hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) from November 7 to 15, 2020 in Dumaguete City.
  2. However, due to the adverse effects brought about b the COVID-19 Pandemic that has affected the conduct of mass gatherings including various sports events, the 12th ASG was canceled in 2020 and 2021.
  3. With the concurrence of the ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC), DepEd announces the rescheduling of the conduct of the 12th ASG slated from November 19 to 27, 2022 with the theme, Play, Inspire, and Experience. The event shall be hosted by the local governments of Dumaguete City and the Province of Negros Oriental, in coordination with DepEd Region VII.
  4. The ASG is an annual sports competition among secondary students, organized under the ASSC. The event aims to provide ASEAN solidarity in the youth through school sports, and opportunities for school-athletes to benchmark their sporting talents and to interact and engage in cultural exchanges within AS EAN.
  5. Aside from the Philippines, the participating countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
  6. The sports to be played are Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Sepaktakraw, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Volleyball. The competitions shall be governed by their respective international rules and regulations unless otherwise amended by the organizing committee in compliance with the IATF guidelines with the concurrence of the participating ASSC co un tri es .
  7. The tentative chedule of Activities is as follows:
  1. The COVID-19 minimum health and safety protocols being enforced by the host city and other localities concerned based on their alert level status shall be strictly observed during the conduct of these activities.
  2. A National Executive Committee (NEC) and different technical working committees are constituted to ensure the successful conduct of the ASG.  The composition of the NEC and the technical working committees, including its respective terms of reference, are provided in the enclosure.
  3. The committee chairpersons shall convene regular meetings and provide feedback to the head of the Steering Committee, who shall then report to the NE C.
  4. The 12th ASG Overall Secretariat shall act on daily operations and preparations, provide support to the different working committees, and exercise other functions as may be directed by the DepEd Secretary. It shall directly report to the NE C.
  5. All concerned are enjoined to extend the necessary support and assistance to the organizers and the host of the 12th ASG to ensure the successful conduct of the annual international school sports event.
  6. All expenses relative to the conduct of the 12th ASG shall be charged, but not limited to the 2022 Physical Fitness and School Sports Fund, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

  8. All other issuances inconsistent with this Memorandum are repealed, rescinded, and modified accordingly.
