Earn CPD Units for ECP Promotion and PRC License Renewal 2026

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the process of tracking and documenting the skills and training a professional has acquired. According to the CPD Act of 2016, the Professional Regulation Commission is mandated to regulate the efficient practice of all professions. This includes compelling all professionals to earn CPD units as part of their professional license renewal process.

As stated in the new guidelines, professional teacher must earn 15 CPD units to renew their PRC license. Teachers can earn these units by attending seminars, workshops, and conferences, conducting research, or participating in community-based professional services.

Required CPD units for PRC License Renewal

As mentioned above, license renewal for professional teachers will require 15 units of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The new guidelines, which mandated only 15 units, were good news for all professional teachers, since the old resolution required a minimum of 45 CPD units.

The even better news is that the PRC, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has granted a grace period. The PRC allows professionals who cannot present their CPD units before December 2024 to do so after signing a ‘Certificate of Undertaking’. Furthermore, as we all know, first-time renewal is exempt from any CPD requirement.

The renewal cycle for professional teachers is every 3 years. Thus, teachers must accumulate 15 units before renewing their license. However, during the transition period, temporary relief was granted due to the Pandemic. For example, if you lack 5 points for your renewal before December 2024, you are still allowed to renew. However, you must add those missing units to your CPD units for your next PRC License Renewal.
