For sterilization of students’ outputs: Imus City public schools provided with UV boxes

All public schools in the Schools Division of Imus City received ultraviolet (UV) sterilization boxes through the joint initiative of Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi and Schools Division Superintendent Rosemarie D. Torres via the Special Education Fund (SEF).

Learners’ health and safety always take priority in the implementation of limited face-to-face classes through the help of the ultraviolet (UV) sterilization boxes to keep students’ outputs free from airborne contaminants that may cause coronavirus transfer. Students put in the 16-watt, 125-liter capacity UV boxes with timer their bags, excluding their snacks, before they are admitted in the classroom for their daily face-to-face classes.

This daily routine is strictly monitored by the teacher aides and class advisers to make sure that the eight schools already implementing limited in-person classes are safe and sound. All 25 public elementary schools, 1 integrated school, 5 Junior High Schools, 4 Senior High Schools, and the SDO received a total of 769 UV boxes in preparation for the ultra expanded limited face-to-face which covers all these schools. Aside from the sterilization boxes, the same schools were also provided with a total of 800 wall fans.

Perhaps the most pressing challenges the school faces are that of ensuring that all learners become competent readers. Learners who experienced problems in reading quickly fall behind their more skilled classmates in their ability to decode and comprehend text. The initiative is in response to the rapidly changing learning environment of present and future learners and will introduce aggressive reforms to globalize the quality of basic education in the Philippines.
