DepEd Teachers will receive 14,000 for their Medical and Clothing Allowance starting April 1

Are you waiting for the release of your medical and clothing allowance? Are you one of those who keep checking their ATM, especially since the holiday season has drained their last salary? The release of two of the most common benefits for teachers is expected. Public school teachers will receive a total of ₱14,000 for their medical and clothing allowance starting April 1. This update brings welcome support to educators who continue to serve with dedication in all that they do. Furthermore, it comes at a timely moment to help ease the financial burden of teachers, especially as the prices of basic commodities continue to rise.

While other education stakeholders and we welcome these benefits, we also advocate for additional support for both teachers and learners, as the cost of education nowadays requires greater investment. More importantly, we must always ensure that the clothing and medical allowances are used for their intended purposes. These benefits provide not only financial support but also, in many cases, serve as a lifeline for the families of our hardworking teachers.

DepEd Clothing Allowance

The clothing allowance is a regular benefit granted to all government employees under national agencies. According to DBM Budget Circular No. 2024-1, a clothing allowance of ₱7,000 is authorized for release starting in April each year. On the other hand, the national government has also authorized the release of the same amount for the medical allowance, which may be provided either through HMO coverage or direct payment to each employee. The Department of Education has decided to distribute the medical allowance based on the majority preference of teachers in each SDO. Let us learn more about these allowances on this page.

Purpose of the Allowance

The allowance helps teachers manage their health needs. It can cover basic medical expenses such as check-ups, medicines, and other health services. This support is important as teachers face daily classroom demands that can affect their well-being. It also helps teachers maintain proper and presentable attire. Teachers are expected to dress professionally at all times. With this allowance, they can buy the clothing they need without adding extra burden to their budget.

Nevertheless, the allowance recognizes teachers’ hard work. It shows appreciation for their dedication and daily efforts in shaping learners. Through this support, the government affirms the value of teachers in nation-building.
