What is Marungko Approach?

The Marungko Method is a strategy designed to help kids become proficient readers. In response to Filipino children’s poor reading comprehension, Dr. Paz H. Diaz, a professor at the University of the Philippines, created it.

The process requires using instructional materials made up of sight words, short phrases, and consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words that gradually get more complicated. Students are encouraged to participate in the learning process through a variety of activities, including games, drills, and reading exercises. The course materials are interactive and hands-on.

How effective is the Marungko Approach?

One of the most popular methods for teaching reading is this technique. In the Philippines, 30 learners from Grade 1 were assessed using this method, according to research. The Marungko Method was used to teach reading to them for six months, and the post-test results revealed a considerable improvement. It went from having fourteen non-readers to having none. Only five of the seven slow readers were still around. They went from three moderate readers to twelve, and from three quick readers to thirteen. The outcomes demonstrated the Marungko Approach’s efficacy in teaching reading.
