Are you tired of thinking about what activities you will prepare for Catch-Up Fridays? The teachers are now in the hard times preparing lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment activities for Catch-Up Fridays. The Department of Education released the Catch-Up Fridays Teaching Guide for prepared instructional materials. This nationwide intervention every Friday is composed of different components.
- National Reading Month (January): Spark a love for reading with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions, book clubs, and creative writing activities.
- Values Formation (February-March): Foster respect, responsibility, and compassion through role-playing, storytelling, and community service projects.
- Health and Wellness (April-May): Promote healthy habits and environmental awareness through fun fitness challenges, nutrition workshops, and eco-friendly initiatives.
- Peace Education (June-July): Build a culture of peace and understanding through conflict resolution workshops, art projects, and peacebuilding activities.
Components of Catch-Up Fridays Teaching Guide
Each Catch-Up Fridays teaching guide provides a comprehensive framework for a specific theme, covering:
- Learning Objectives: Clearly defined goals for the session, aligned with DepEd’s curriculum and Catch-Up Friday’s focus areas (reading, values, health, and peace education).
- Activities and Strategies: A variety of engaging activities and teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and keep students motivated.
- Materials and Resources: A list of readily available materials or easily sourced resources to make preparation a breeze.
- Assessment: Guidance on how to monitor student progress and ensure the effectiveness of your chosen activities.
Assessment and Catch-Up Fridays
Catch-up Fridays shall not be graded. Since its main objective is to reinforce learning, individual progress shall be monitored through the learner’s Reflection Journal, compiling reading experiences, learnings, and appreciation of Values, Health, and Peace Education. Learners may also articulate their thoughts through various forms of writing, such as stories, journals, personal essays, and other forms of creative expression that reflect their unique learning experiences.
