DepEd Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (ELLNA) Reviewer

As per DepEd Memorandum No. 16 s 2024, The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Bureau of Education Assessment (BEA) will administer the Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Assessment (ELLNA) under DepEd Order (DO) No. 55, s. 2016, titled Policy Guidelines on the National Assessment of Student Learning for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. In that sense, we have prepared the official reviewer of DepEd for the Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Assessment (ELLNA) School Year 2025-2026.

The Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Program (ELLN) focuses on capacitating Kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers and instructional leaders on the basic knowledge and pedagogical skills in literacy and numeracy. Further, this serves as an instrument for establishing and managing a school-based mentoring/learning partnership program as a mechanism for the continuous professional development of teachers/mentors, teachers/mentees, school managers, and instructional leaders. To assess the quality of primary learning among Grade 3 learners, the DepEd conducts ELLNA (formerly known as National Achievement Test for Grade 3 or NATG3). Nevertheless, this nationwide assessment requires massive preparation from orientation to numerous review sessions.

Guidelines and Other Materials for ELLNA

DepEd no longer calls the National Achievement Test for Grade 3 (NATG3) by its old name. Starting School Year 2024-2025, it has replaced NATG3 with the Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Assessment (ELLNA). On this page, you can find the official ELLNA Answer Sheet and ELLNA DepEd Guide.

Here’s a quick rundown of ELLNA:

  • It’s given to all Grade 3 students in public schools in the Philippines.
  • It assesses if students are meeting the learning standards in reading, writing, and math.
  • The test is multiple-choice and uses Filipino, English, and the student’s mother tongue.
  • It’s meant as a key stage assessment at the end of Grade 3.
