DepEd Alternative Learning System
The DepEd Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a program created for Filipinos who were unable to enroll in or finish their official education in schools due to a variety of circumstances. It gives out-of-school children and adults (OSYAs) a second opportunity to learn functional and basic literacy skills and obtain a certificate that is equivalent to a conventional elementary or secondary education diploma.
Key components of the DepEd ALS program include the following:
- Accessible and flexible: Learning sessions are arranged according to the learners’ comfort and availability, which facilitates participation by working people and those with family responsibilities.
- Modular design: The curriculum is divided into manageable modules that allow learners to progress at their own pace.
- Non-formal and informal learning: The program acknowledges and integrates knowledge and skills gained outside of traditional classrooms, such as work experience or community involvement.
Two main programs:
- Basic Literacy Program (BLP): This program equips learners with fundamental literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
- Continuing Education Program (CEP) Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E): This program allows learners to earn an equivalency certificate that signifies completion of elementary or secondary education.
