DepEd Guidelines for Early Registration | SY 2026-2027

As provided in Department of Education Order No. 03 s. 2018, or the Basic Education Enrollment Policy, all incoming Kindergarten, Grade 1, 7, and 11 learners in all public schools shall pre-register. Further, this early registration for School Year 2026-2027 allows the Department to make necessary preparations and adjustments to plans for the incoming school year. Incoming Grades 2 – 6, 8 -10, and 12 are considered pre-registered to their current school. Thus, there is no need for these students to participate in the early registration except for transfer-in learners and those who are no longer in school but are interested in returning to school.

Required Documents for Early Registration

As the new school year approaches, the Department of Education is opening its doors early to help families prepare ahead of time. Starting January 31, 2026, parents and guardians of incoming learners are encouraged to begin the early registration process. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth and organized enrollment experience for Kindergarten, Grade 1, transferees in Grades 2–6, and learners under specialized programs such as SNED and ALS. By registering early, families can secure their child’s placement and give the school ample time to plan for the upcoming academic year.

FAQs in Early Registration

What is the general cut-off age for Kindergarten for School Year 2026–2027?

The general rule states that a child must be 5 years old on or before October 31 of the school year they are entering.

Can my child enroll in Kindergarten if they turn 5 after October 31?

Yes, DepEd allows exceptions. Children who will turn 5 from November 1 to December 31 may still enroll if they meet specific conditions.

What are the conditions for children turning 5 between November 1 and December 31?

Your child may be accepted if they satisfy at least one of the following:
Completed a 1‑year Early Childhood Development (ECD) program in a registered Learning Center with valid documentation; or
Completed an ECD checklist assessment conducted by the Kindergarten teacher anytime from the enrollment period until the first week of the school year.

Why is there a cut-off age for Kindergarten?

The cut-off age is intended to ensure that learners entering Kindergarten are developmentally ready for formal schooling.

Do all schools follow this cut-off rule?

Yes. All public and private schools under DepEd are required to follow the Kindergarten age cut-off and its specified exceptions.
