DepEd Opening of Classes for SY 2023-2024
In an interview conducted on the margins of the Language and Inclusion Summit at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, Poa provided an update on the preparations for the start of the School Year (SY) 2023-2024.
If not amended the existing DO, DepEd Opening of Classes for SY 2023-2024 will start on August 29, 2023 and end on June 28, 2024. While the SY 2024–2025 period will run from August 26, 2024, to June 27, 2025. For each of the aforementioned school years’ individual school calendars, a separate DepEd Order (DO) must be issued.
However, the Department said the dates are not yet finalize. “Once it is finalized, we will be coming out with our school calendar for 2023-2024 which will indicate dates when we will start classes,” Poa said.
As part of the preparations for the opening of the incoming school year, DepEd has started the conduct of Early Registration for public schools on May 10 and will end on June 9. The Early Registration is for incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners in public schools. All students in the aforementioned grade levels must pre-register or engage in early registration, according to DepEd, in order for the Department to “make the necessary preparations and adjustments of plans for the incoming SY.”
In preparation for the opening of the 2023-2024 academic year, and with the easing of mobility restrictions, the Department of Education (DepEd) will implement enhanced enrollment procedures that reflect the current health and safety situation in the country for 2023-2024. Pursuant to Department Order (DO) No. 10, s. 2023 or the 2023-2024 school calendar and events, registration will begin May 15, 2023.
