Breaking News | DepEd New K-10 Curriculum
The Department of Education (DepEd) has established a timeline for the revision and upgrading of the curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 10 in order to adapt to new methods of teaching and learning.
“We are also responding to the challenges of curriculum, education per se. This is a persisting challenge even before I came in and we continue the review of our curriculum, especially in this time with the pressure to rely on technology and the pressure to respond to what everyone describes as the new normal in the light of COVID-19,” Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.
The new curriculum also highlighted the importance of basic educational foundation such as reading and writing, thus, the Department gave priority to these in early grade levels. “Ang initial agreements talaga namin para sa Kinder hanggang Grade 3, mas paiigtingin natin yung pagbabasa, pagcompute at social emotional skills. Gusto natin mas simple pero marunong na marunong,” Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said.
“Focusing on Big Ideas provide transferable concepts to other topics, contexts, or inquiries thereby preventing information overload,” DepEd said. One of the new features is the “Redesigned Kindergarten Curriculum” to produce young Filipino children who are “holistically developed literates equipped with 21st century skills.”
