What is DepEd’s LIS? The Learner Information System (LIS) is an online facility that provides for the registration of learners enrolled in schools run or licensed by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines. It is the national registry of all learners in Basic Education.

Data Needed for the Learner Information System (LIS)

The Learner Information System (LIS) serves as the Department of Education’s official database for recording and managing learner information across public schools and recognized private institutions in the Philippines. To ensure accurate learner records, efficient school administration, and reliable education statistics, schools are required to collect and maintain essential data for every enrolled learner. These records support enrollment, learner tracking, program implementation, academic monitoring, and the delivery of government assistance and other education-related services.

Classes and class advisers (for formal)
Learning facilitators (for ALS and Abot-Alam)
Grades and evaluation results;
Indication of benefits (4Ps, CCT, ESC, QVR)

Functions of Learner Information System

The Learner Information System (LIS) is DepEd’s centralized database that keeps and manages learner records throughout their basic education journey. It serves as the national registry of all learners and records their enrollment information. It also helps schools manage classes, process learner transfers, monitor promotion and graduation, and maintain records for the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

With accurate and updated learner information, the LIS makes school administrative tasks faster and more organized. At the same time, it helps the Department of Education improve planning, allocate resources more effectively, and deliver better quality education to learners across the Philippines.

What is Learner Reference Number (LRN) in LIS DepEd?

A unique and permanent 12-digit number assigned to anyone enrolled into the Philippine Basic Education system. The Philippines national student identification number. This applies regardless of the learner’s transfer to another school or learning center in the public or private sector, and promotion/moving up to the secondary level.

Learner Reference Number (LRN) Issuance Guidelines

The Learner Reference Number (LRN) is a unique and permanent identification number assigned to every learner in the Philippine basic education system. It serves as the learner’s official identifier throughout their educational journey, allowing schools and the Department of Education (DepEd) to accurately track enrollment, academic progress, transfers, and graduation. To maintain the integrity of learner records, DepEd has established specific policies on who can issue LRNs, when they are assigned, and the procedures for obtaining them.

Key Guidelines on LRN Issuance

Only the following institutions are authorized to issue a Learner Reference Number (LRN) in accordance with DepEd Order No. 52, s. 2016:
- Public schools
- Private schools with a valid DepEd permit or recognition
- Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Centers (CLCs)
Every learner can have only one permanent and lifelong LRN. The same LRN should be used throughout the learner’s basic education, regardless of school transfers or changes in learning modality.
The DepEd Central Office and Regional Offices do not issue LRNs to new learners and will not disclose an existing LRN. Schools are responsible for requesting or verifying LRNs through the Learner Information System (LIS).
Learners receive their LRN upon their first entry into the basic education system, including:
- Kindergarten
- Grade 1 under the Kindergarten Catch-Up Education Program (KCEP)
- Alternative Learning System (ALS)
For learners entering Grade 1 (non-KCEP) up to Grade 12 without an existing LRN, the issuance of a new LRN requires approval from the Schools Division Office (SDO) through the Learner Information System (LIS).
Claiming or obtaining an LRN is completely free of charge. Schools and learners should not be asked to pay any fee for the issuance or verification of an LRN.

How to know your Learner Reference Number (LRN)?

You can see your LRN in various official DepEd documents released to you like SF10 or Form 137 (School’s Permanent Records), Transfer Documents, Form 138 (Report Card) and others. There is no way you can view your LRN yourself in online unless you have an access privilege in https://lis.deped.gov.ph/, click here to go to LIS DepEd.
