The Department of Education is fully implementing the MATATAG Curriculum, and Grade 2 is part of its rollout. This updated curriculum improves the K to 12 program by reducing the number of competencies. As a result, we are pleased to share the MATATAG Daily Lesson Logs (DLL) for Grade 2, Term 1, which you can now download.
In addition, the competencies are properly spread across the learning days under the three-term school calendar. Since School Year 2026–2027 is about to start, teachers should already prepare for these changes. The Department of Education also uses a new DLL format that matches the MATATAG Curriculum. Here, you can download the complete set of ready-made Grade 2 Term 1 Daily Lesson Logs using the new format.
The Daily Lesson Log (DLL) serves as an important guide for effective classroom instruction. It clearly shows the flow of daily activities and the competencies that learners must achieve. Moreover, it now includes simple sections such as Pre-Lesson, Lesson Proper, and Post-Lesson. Because of this updated structure, the DLL becomes easier to follow and understand compared to the previous version.
Overview of the Grade 2 Matatag Curriculum
The Department of Education (DepEd) will fully roll out the Grade 2 Matatag Curriculum in School Year 2026–2027. This move aims to set clearer and more focused learning standards in basic education. Instead of covering broad skills, the curriculum will now emphasize strong foundations in reading, writing, and arithmetic. As a result, learners can build essential skills more effectively.
In addition, the curriculum continues what Grade 1 has started. However, it now separates Filipino and English into two different subjects. In Grade 1, these were combined under one subject called Language. With this change, learners can develop stronger skills in both languages. Moreover, the curriculum reduces the number of subjects from seven to five. It also removes MAPEH and Mother Tongue as separate subjects. Because of this, the learning load becomes more focused and manageable for learners.

First, Mother Tongue is no longer a separate subject. However, it still plays an important role in learning. Teachers continue to use it as a medium of instruction in the early grades. In many cases, they use the learners’ mother tongue to explain lessons more clearly, especially when students find English or Filipino difficult to understand.
Meanwhile, MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health) is also no longer offered as a separate subject in Grade 2. Still, its important skills and lessons did not disappear. Instead, the curriculum integrated them into the remaining subjects. These competencies now appear in GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct) and Makabansa, where they are taught in a more connected way.
Outline of Grade 2 Competencies in Term 1 DLL
The Grade 2 Matatag Curriculum focuses on strengthening the foundational learning skills introduced in the previous level. Nevertheless, the competencies for the five (5) Grade 2 subjects are outlined in our prepared Matatag Curriculum Guide. Although we are unable to list all the competencies in detail due to certain limitations, you can refer to the content and performance standards below to gain insights into the expected learning outcomes for Grade 2.

Budget of Work (BoW) for Term 1 of Grade 2
According to DepEd Order No. 09 (s. 2026), the school year will now follow a Three-Term scheme. This setup spreads learning competencies across three terms for better coverage. Because of this change, schools now have a new opportunity to improve how teaching and learning take place. It can make classroom interactions more meaningful and organized. However, success will depend on clear and proper guidance. Without it, the implementation may fail.
To support teachers, the Department also prepared a Budget of Work (BoW) for each learning area in a weekly format. This BoW helps teachers stay on track with their lessons. It also reduces the risk of running out of time when covering all required competencies. You may download the updated BoW below.

FAQs
Under the MATATAG Curriculum, Grade 2 has five (5) learning areas, continuing the streamlining that started in Grade 1. However, unlike Grade 1, Filipino and English are already taught.
In Term 1 (First Quarter), Grade 2 learners are expected to build on their Grade 1 foundation while gradually increasing independence in learning. Lessons are still learner-centered and activity-based, but with slightly higher expectations.
