DepEd MATATAG Curriculum Guide (CG) and Budget of Work (BoW) for Grade 2

Adapting to new approaches in teaching and learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) has set a roadmap for the review and updating of its MATATAG Curriculum Guide for Grade 2. This curriculum is all about helping our Grade 1 learners become confident and capable explorers of the world around them. It focuses on building a strong foundation in six key areas.

  • Focus on Filipino and English: They’re not separate subjects anymore, but rather different ways to communicate and learn. This makes sense, considering how important it is to be comfortable in both languages in the Philippines.
  • Makabansa: A Celebration of Our Culture: This learning area combines elements of social studies and character education. My son is learning about our history, heroes, and traditions, all while developing important values like respect and responsibility.
  • Math Gets Real: Forget memorizing formulas! MATATAG Math is all about applying problem-solving skills to real-life situations. My son is figuring out how much candy he can buy with his allowance, understanding shapes in his drawings, and even learning basic measurements – all fun and engaging activities!
  • GMRC: Gearing Up for the Future: GMRC stands for Governance, Risk Reduction, and Climate Change. This might sound heavy, but it’s actually age-appropriate. My son is learning about safety, good citizenship, and taking care of our environment – all crucial skills for the future generation.

In addition, DepEd will review the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) implemented this school year and assess whether they are sufficient for learners to acquire knowledge and skills.
