Adapting to new approaches in teaching and learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) has set a roadmap for the review and updating of its MATATAG Curriculum Guide for Grade 3. This program goes beyond memorization and drills, focusing on building strong foundational skills in five core learning areas:
- Makabansa: This area strengthens your child’s understanding of the Filipino language, culture, and values. They’ll delve deeper into Filipino literature, explore historical narratives, and learn about important societal values like respect and responsibility.
- Languages: Here, your child will refine their skills in both Filipino and English (if applicable). They’ll learn more complex grammatical structures, expand their vocabulary, and improve their ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages.
- Mathematics: Math leaps forward in Grade 3. Your child will explore multiplication and division, delve into fractions and decimals, and develop problem-solving strategies to tackle more challenging mathematical concepts.
- GMRC (Governance, Risk Reduction, and Climate Change): This crucial area equips your child with essential knowledge and skills. They’ll learn about responsible citizenship, disaster preparedness, and the importance of environmental conservation, building a foundation for informed decision-making in the future.
- Science (new in Grade 3): Get ready for scientific exploration! This newly introduced area sparks your child’s curiosity about the natural world. They’ll conduct experiments, explore the concepts of living and non-living things, and discover fascinating facts about plants, animals, and the environment.
“Ang importante, marunong siyang magbasa at yung mga importanteng kaalaman at kasanayan. Kasi kahit hindi mo na yan turuan pag naging interesado yan, magbabasa yan at magdi-discover ng mundo on their own,” added Usec. San Antonio. In addition, DepEd will review the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) implemented this school year and assess whether they are sufficient for learners to acquire knowledge and skills.
