The Daily Lesson Log (DLL) is an essential tool for teachers, and we understand how challenging it can be to create one. It’s important to always follow the guidelines outlined in the Matatag Curriculum.
Additionally, this school year’s DLL layout simplifies the flow of classroom learning by dividing it into three main parts: Pre-lesson, Lesson Proper, and Post-lesson. An effort to reduce the burden on teachers in planning lessons and facilitating the learning process. Our Daily Lesson Log is ready-made for School Year 2026–2027; however, you are free to make any revisions if necessary.
What is the Matatag Curriculum for Grade 3?
The Grade 3 Matatag Curriculum employs its Instructional Design Framework, that composed of three essential pillars: Curriculum, Teaching, and Assessment. It is rooted in the principle of optimal learning, helping teachers achieve the target competencies. At the same time, the Matatag Curriculum places learners at the center of designing learning content and strategies.
The success of this curriculum depends on the teacher’s holistic approach and attention to innovation and learner-centeredness. So, the teachers should adapt their Daily Lesson Log (DLL) to include pedagogical methods and strategies that keep learners actively engaged. Therefore, the teaching-learning process should primarily focus on developing critical thinking and essential skills as the foundation of classroom activities.
The Matatag Curriculum includes Grade 3, treating it as a springboard to formal schooling. At this grade level, teachers begin to deliver instruction with subjects taught separately, giving learners their first exposure to this format. It is a crucial stage in the learning journey where pupils must begin to establish their foundational skills.
By the end of Grade 3, learners are expected to have achieved basic literacy and numeracy skills. In addition to their natural learning for engaging creatively in the arts and develop an appreciation for cultural heritage.
As in the previous grade levels, the learning areas have been reduced to only five. The Grade 3 Matatag Curriculum no longer includes MAPEH and Mother Tongue as separate subjects. You can refer to the table below for a sample classroom program for Grade 3. The table includes additional intervention sessions such as the NRP (National Reading Program) and NMP (National Mathematics Program).

ILAW Framework
Planning impactful lessons does not require overcomplicating your teaching process. The Department of Education (DepEd) uses the ILAW Framework—a practical, streamlined approach to lesson design that keeps learning focused, manageable, and effective. Whether you use different terminology in your existing lesson plans or follow DepEd templates, as long as you cover these four core components, your teaching aligns perfectly with standard pedagogical practices.
You begin with Intentions, where you focus on unpacking the learning competencies. Before stepping into the classroom, you verify whether the goals are clear and manageable within your time period while considering your students’ prior knowledge, skills, and context. Next, you build the Learning Experience by choosing instructional patterns—such as Pre-During-Post, 6Es, or 5As—that help learners reach those target intentions. You keep these experiences simple and purpose-driven, knowing that every lesson does not need technology, group work, or complex games to work.
To ensure your students grasp the concepts, you incorporate Assessing Learning continuously throughout the lesson instead of waiting until the end. You track comprehension using quick quizzes, exit slips, discussions, drills, or simple teacher observations. Finally, you determine your Ways Forward through post-lesson reflection. You document short notes on what worked and what failed, using classroom evidence to decide whether you should reteach, remediate, enrich, or move ahead to the next topic.
