What is the MATATAG Curriculum for Grade 7?

The Revised K-10 Curriculum, launched by the Department of Education (DepEd) in 2024 and will be fully implemented starting SY 2026–2027, represents a major overhaul of the K to 12 curriculum. For example, Grade 7 reform brings focused, relevant, and streamlined content designed to improve student mastery, reduce overcrowded learning competencies, and emphasize 21st-century skills.

The Grade 7 competencies in the Revised K-10 Curriculum are streamlined to develop foundational knowledge and skills for the learners’ Junior High School journey. Also, the target competencies connect prior learning from elementary to secondary schooling. Furthermore, the curriculum reduces the number of learning competencies to focus on depth over breadth. It also realigns Grade 7 topics across quarters and subjects for logical progression and better retention. Most importantly, Term 2 of Grade 7 emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, digital literacy, and values education.

Overview of Grade 7 DLL – Term 2 Subjects

The competencies for Grade 7 in Term 2 serve as an introduction to more comprehensive fields across all learning areas. However, we are unable to individually list all the competencies for Term 2 here. Thus, we have decided to include only the content and performance standards for each learning area. Also, these standards summarize the competencies on which our collection of Daily Lesson Logs (DLL) is based.

ILAW Framework

Planning impactful lessons does not require overcomplicating your teaching process. The Department of Education (DepEd) uses the ILAW Framework—a practical, streamlined approach to lesson design that keeps learning focused, manageable, and effective. Whether you use different terminology in your existing lesson plans or follow DepEd templates, as long as you cover these four core components, your teaching aligns perfectly with standard pedagogical practices.

You begin with Intentions, where you focus on unpacking the learning competencies. Before stepping into the classroom, you verify whether the goals are clear and manageable within your time period while considering your students’ prior knowledge, skills, and context. Next, you build the Learning Experience by choosing instructional patterns—such as Pre-During-Post, 6Es, or 5As—that help learners reach those target intentions. You keep these experiences simple and purpose-driven, knowing that every lesson does not need technology, group work, or complex games to work.

To ensure your students grasp the concepts, you incorporate Assessing Learning continuously throughout the lesson instead of waiting until the end. You track comprehension using quick quizzes, exit slips, discussions, drills, or simple teacher observations. Finally, you determine your Ways Forward through post-lesson reflection. You document short notes on what worked and what failed, using classroom evidence to decide whether you should reteach, remediate, enrich, or move ahead to the next topic.
