Grade 5 Daily Lesson Log (DLL) – Quarter 2 SY 2025–2026 | Updated MATATAG Curriculum

The results of various reviews and research on the effectiveness of the K to 12 Program highlight the need for a more streamlined and essentials-based curriculum. In response, the Department of Education initiated revisions to the K to 12 Program, resulting in the Matatag Curriculum. This updated curriculum introduces significant changes, particularly in teachers’ preparation for classroom instruction. Starting School Year 2025–2026, all grade levels have either revised or renamed learning areas and competencies. For Grade 5, the learning areas remain the same as in the original K to 12, but adjustments have still been made. These changes require additional preparation, such as the Daily Lesson Log (DLL). We are here to support you by providing ready-to-use DLLs. On this page, you can download our Grade 5 Quarter 2 DLL based on the Matatag Curriculum.

Grade 4 to 5 Class Program

The major concern of the original K to 12 Curriculum was its competency congestion. Thus, it became necessary to remove or modify nonessential skills or competencies. This modification makes the education system more focused on vital lessons that develop learners for the 21st century. The learners who can learn independently, are socially responsible, and possess foundational educational skills. The Matatag Curriculum also mandates teachers to use both Filipino and English as the Medium of Teaching and Learning (MOTL). For that, we reflect this MOTL in the Daily Lesson Logs (DLL) uploaded here. Additionally, we purposely craft the DLLs for use by both public and private school teachers.

What’s New in the MATATAG Curriculum for Grade 5

Always remember that the main impact of the Matatag K-10 Curriculum is the reduction of complicated competencies. This is achieved by merging repeatable competencies and removing unnecessary lessons. While the number of learning competencies decreases, the curriculum also ensures deeper understanding and mastery of the newly revitalized competencies. The main skills in focus are literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional development. Specifically, Grade 5 adds a semi-regular subject called the National Mathematics Program (NMP) to strengthen numeracy. Previous assessments of our educational system show that a considerable percentage of Grade 5 learners struggle with number literacy.

Matatag Curriculum Framework

The Matatag Curriculum for Grade 5 also promotes holistic development by integrating values, critical thinking, and real-world application into one learning framework. This approach helps learners prepare for future academic challenges in higher grade levels and their career pursuits. Furthermore, Grade 5 strongly embeds various principles to combat bullying. For example, it requires that every lesson be prepared in a way that accommodates diverse learning needs and promotes inclusivity.

Based on DepEd Order 10, series 2024, the education system must revolve around three main elements: curriculum, assessment, and teaching. We cover each of these Matatag Curriculum elements in various articles on this site. However, this page focuses on helping you understand the specific learning expectations or target competencies as you prepare your Daily Lesson Log (DLL).

Always remember that the DLL should fully cover or embed the target competencies from top to bottom. Knowing the learning targets in our DLL will give you a significant advantage by saving you from manually scanning them one by one. While we cannot list all the competencies on this page, we provide information about the content and performance standards of the Matatag curriculum used in our DLL for Quarter 2 of Grade 5.
